Together we can watch the tree canopy in Norfolk grow to new heights.

Join us April 22nd at Virginia Zoo's Party for the Planet from 10 am to 3 pm and adopt a tree or shrub for FREE. No tree selections or reservations are accepted prior to the event and trees will be distributed first come, first served to Norfolk residents.

Check out the trees and shrubs available for adoption on April 22. Learn more about tree planting to see if you may be a good fit to adopt a tree.

PAST: In 2014 and 2015, together with the Alliance for Community Trees, FONE used nearly $20,000 in funding to increase the tree canopy in Norfolk.  This funding transitioned the 2014 mission concept into a systematic way of operation where FONE received, evaluated, and awarded grants that increase tree canopy throughout the city.   Check out our January 30 winter tree distribution photos. If you've received a tree and need some help planting, view our tree planting guide.

PRESENT: After three successful distribution years, FONE is transitioning the NeighborWoods program from two distribution events to one.  For the 2016/2017 tree planting season, FONE will offer fruit and nut trees to Norfolk residents on a first-come, first-served system.

FUTURE (i.e. 2017): Our fruit and nut tree distribution was Saturday, January 14, 2017 where we distributed 1 tree per Norfolk household free-of-charge. The tree distribution is first-come, first-served and had a selection of fruit and nut trees – apple (2 varieties), pear, fig, persimmon, plum (2 varieties), paw paw, pecan, peach, and chinquapin.
