Since our beginning in 1999, we've been a group of dedicated volunteer community leaders engaging with individual citizens to improve Norfolk's environment.
The mission of the Friends of Norfolk’s Environment is to inspire a spirit of environmental stewardship among all citizens of the City.
We believe that citizen-based initiatives build stronger, more resilient neighborhoods. We believe that partnerships among government, businesses, non-profits, and citizens afford the best opportunity for success.
The Friends of Norfolk’s Environment is celebrating its 20th Anniversary in 2019. Its all-volunteer membership is committed to the greening of Norfolk through the expansion of the City’s tree canopy. We emphasize education and restoration activities, sponsor tree adoption fairs (such as Jamn’ Jamz, - an annual invitation to learn about, celebrate, and plant trees), and seek collaborators who want to convert vacant lots, unplanted riparian buffers, medians, and deforested city areas to enhance the social well-being of our residents and address sustainability concerns.
